Job Description
Jam City is looking for a 3D Generalist who will be responsible for building a wide array of characters, items, and environments, texture mapping and painting for use in our mobile, casual games. This unique position requires a creative, talented and motivated individual to collaborate with multiple disciplines to create great Disney/Pixar games. To successfully execute the role, the candidate must have strong visual design skills with an emphasis on modeling, UV mapping and texturing for games. A firm grasp of form, color and light is essential. Able to take creative direction and share it with internal and external teams, identify new techniques or tools to maintain and improve quality. Act as mentor and subject expert for 3D development. Rigging experience is a plus. Open to fully remote candidates willing to work PDT hours
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create and optimize mobile-device low-poly 3D models for production, including characters, environments and props
- Create textures in various executions, from stylized to realistic
- Fix existing art assets by editing UVs and textures, basic modeling practices, and screen shot/ reference generation.
- Participate in visual critiques and brainstorms
- Assist Technical Artists in designing, implementing and maintaining 3D pipelines
QUALIFICATIONS
- 5-7 years of gaming experience on mobile (preferred), console or PC products
- 7+ years of experience working with Maya or other 3D art packages
- A strong portfolio/demo-reel showcasing mastery of low-poly modeling, lighting, and the creation and application of textures.
- Expert level understanding of mapping UVs for efficient texture use and consistent pixel density
- Ability to optimize textures and models for mobile devices
- Understanding of of human and animal anatomy
- Ability to interpret concepts and rougher turnarounds
- Understanding of rigging and animation principles
- Skills translating from concept art and reference art/materials to 3D models and textures
- Expert eye for composition, layout, color theory, form, scale and level of detail
- Able to meet deliverables and drive your work to completion within specified timelines
- Great communication skills, both written and verbal, and a collaborative work ethic
- Exhibits a mastery of industry standard 3D software (Maya, Photoshop, Zbrush)
- Understanding of video game production phases
- A strong understanding of Unity
- Art degree or equivalent work experience
- Knowledge of Substance 3D
- Ability to give and receive constructive feedback
- Sense of humor and optimistic approach
- Able to multi-task like a pro
- Passion for video games a must!

The range listed is just one component of Jam City's total compensation package for employees, which may also include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, certifications, location, business needs, or market demands. This range is based on a full-time position. This range may be modified in the future. In addition, Jam City provides a variety of benefits to employees, including but not limited to medical, dental, vision, parental leave, paid time off, a 401(k) plan, life, disability, and accident insurance. Pay Range: $94,000 — $123,000 salary per year.
