We're looking for an accomplished Senior or Principal Combat Designer to join our Star Wars Jedi team. Reporting to the Lead Combat Systems Designer, you will focus on delivering stellar gameplay combat experiences that feel good to play at every level. you are well-versed in hero control/mechanics, combat/weapons, class design, skills/progression and story. We're picturing someone passionate about designing and building world-class hero combat systems who will embrace our philosophy and share their hard earned expertise to create an incredible experience for our players.
What you'll do....
- Collaborate with and take direction from the Lead Combat Systems Designer, Game Director and design leadership to take hero designs and combat systems from concept to completion.
- Collaborate with art, code, audio, animation, visual effects to deliver combat systems that epitomize the creative vision of the game.
- Work within Unreal Engine 5 to implement character animations, build hero systems and system tuning.
- Research subject matter relating to the design objective to ensure the authenticity of the experience.
- Facilitate communication and coordination between relevant departments to ensure overall creative vision.
- Self-critique and accept outside critique. The more feedback you receive, the more you can tailor your work towards what is best for the team.
- Incorporate coworkers' ideas into the process.
- Participate in the research and development of new tools and design systems.
- Establish and enforce design practices, constraints, and metrics throughout projects.
Ideally, you will have....
- At least 5+ years' experience in the games industry working as a combat / systems designer, shipping at least one title as a combat designer.
- Experience designing and implementing heroes, enemies, bosses or combat systems using a visual scripting or text-based language.
- Experience with Unreal Engine 4 or 5 is ideal.
- Experience in rapid prototyping to test the feasibility of concepts.
- Expert combat design instincts, including a superb grasp of timing and instincts of what feels right for the player.
- Deep understanding of combat gameplay systems and mechanics.
- Ability to pro/con design decisions and the ramifications they will have on the overall experience.
- Ability to break down problems systematically and logically.
- Ability to pitch design concepts in a clear, detailed manner, through strong written and verbal communication.
- Excellent interdepartmental collaboration skills.
- A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science is a plus.
- A passion for 3rd person melee combat games is a must..

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The base salary ranges listed below are for the defined geographic market pay zones in these locations. If you reside outside of these locations, a recruiter will advise on the range and benefits for your specific location.

Pay offered will be determined based on numerous relevant business and candidate factors including, for example, education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and business or organizational needs.
BASE SALARY RANGES
• California (depending on location e.g. Los Angeles vs. Sacramento):
o $138,200 - $219,000 USD Annually
• New York (depending on location e.g. Manhattan vs. Buffalo):
o $136,600 - $219,000 USD Annually
• Jersey City, NJ :
o $171,100 - $219,000 USD Annually
• Colorado (depending on location e.g. Denver vs. Colorado Springs):
o $153,100 - $206,200 USD Annually
• Washington (depending on location e.g. Seattle vs. Spokane):
o $136,600 - $202,300 USD Annually
• British Columbia (depending on location e.g. Vancouver vs. Victoria):
o $126,000 - $176,300 CAN Annually
Base salary is just one part of the overall compensation at EA. In the US, we offer a package of benefits including paid time off (3 weeks per year to start), 80 hours per year of sick time, 16 paid company holidays per year, 10 weeks paid time off to bond with baby, medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and 401(k) to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity. For British Columbia, we offer a package of benefits including vacation (3 weeks per year to start), 10 days per year of sick time, paid top-up to EI/QPIP benefits up to 100% of base salary when you welcome a new child (12 weeks for maternity, and 4 weeks for parental/adoption leave), extended health/dental/vision coverage, life insurance, disability insurance, retirement plan to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
