The Finance, Planning, and Budgeting (FPB) encompasses the major central financial, planning, and budgeting functions for the University of Washington, including:

    The Sr. Workday Business Solutions Analyst manages and supports the financial business processes, applications, and systems. This position is responsible for evaluating, developing solutions, partnering with campus partners to implement, and training on process and systems flow. Functions may include analyzing functional and systems requirements, developing application architecture and design, writing code, validating data acquisition and output media/formats, designing user interfaces, developing and maintaining websites, interactive applications, simulations, video/audio streaming, working with users to test, debug, and troubleshoot applications, assuring software and systems quality and functionality, integrating hardware and software components, writing and maintaining program documentation, evaluating new and improved software applications and programming technologies, and ensuring the rigorous application of information security/information assurance policies, principles, and practices.
    The Sr. Workday Business Solutions Analyst will work directly with Finance, Planning & Budgeting (FPB) leaders and program managers to provide consultation and support in the collection, development, analysis, interpretation, and management of a variety of complex internal and external data sources. The Sr. Workday Business Solutions Analyst operates under general or minimum supervision and performs duties with broad latitude for exercising independent judgment.
    Position Complexities
    Campus leadership:
  • Collaborate, communicate, and coordinate FPB leadership and program managers to provide consultation and support in the collection, development, analysis, interpretation, and management of a variety of complex internal and external data sources to coordinate with central partners to update or modify business systems processes in central systems.
  • Demonstrated functional expertise in finance and accounting business processes.
  • Responsible for recommending and implementing industry-leading practices, processes, and technologies.
  • Recommend, review, and own the functional/ technical solutions, evaluate short-term or long-term trade-offs based on business processes to ensure industry-standard, scalable solutions are implemented.
  • Negotiate priorities and resolve conflicts between unit requests and priorities and FPB and University mission, goals, and priorities.
  • Integrate unit priorities and programs into FPB and university priorities.
  • Lead and move projects forward effectively, even in situations where they have little or no direct control of or influence over project partners.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with internal partners (central partners and unit partners) and external partners.
  • Create/maintain functional specification documents, review technical specification documents, Workday standard/custom configurations documents, rollout strategies, end-to-end business flows, test scenarios, and perform/ support end-to-end testing for business partners.

  • Participate in the development and communication of business process changes and modifications.

  • Advise and counsel leadership, faculty, and staff on business systems modifications and changes.
  • Seek ways to continuously improve the program to enhance UW's financial systems.
  • Create and update tools and resources for program users.
  • Follow trends in the market; identify, develop, and disseminate best practices.

    Requires competence in a diverse set of skills and knowledge of University systems and business processes including an understanding of:
  • Day-to-day of unit operations.
  • Financial business operations including budget management, payroll, purchasing, travel, and reconciliation.
  • Grants management.
  • Financial systems implementations.
  • Data and reporting needs at the enterprise level.
    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    Business Systems Analysis and Planning
    Analyze Complex Business Process, Problems, and Resolution:
  • Investigate and resolve intricate issues related to Workday, business process, and other integrated systems.
  • Collaborate with central finance offices and campus partners to develop effective solutions.
  • Document system issues, data flow, integration, workflow, and pain points.
    Strategic Decision Support:
  • Analyze business problems and propose solutions in a complex matrixed environment.
  • Assess alternatives and create business cases.
  • Provide critical insights to diverse process partners.
  • Configure or design Workday configurations.
  • Recommend, review, and own functional and technical solutions.
  • Evaluate short-term and long-term trade-offs based on business processes.
  • Ensure industry-standard, scalable solutions are implemented.
    Risk Management and Oversight:
  • Identify risk trends from incoming tickets and propose system-wide solutions.
  • Evaluate information from multiple sources and reconcile conflicts.
  • Ensure proper escalation for critical issues.
  • Coordinate configuration changes and break fixes.
    Collaboration and Communication:
  • Engage with the Application Support team to address campus issues related to Workday and enterprise systems.
  • Act as a liaison between FPB and the Application Support team.
  • Collaborate with functional subject matter experts across FPB and campus partners.
  • Provide targeted training, if needed, including with Shared Environments.
    Process Integration and Documentation:
  • Create and maintain functional specification documents.
  • Review technical specification documents.
  • Document Workday standard/custom configurations.
  • Develop rollout strategies and end-to-end business flows.
  • Work closely with other FPB Workday Business Analysts to ensure integrated processes function seamlessly.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive business process and systems documentation.
    Enterprise System Management:
    End-to-End Testing and Support
  • Design comprehensive test scenarios.
  • Perform or support end-to-end testing for business partners.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful system implementations.
    Procure-to-Pay Expertise
  • Demonstrate functional expertise in procure-to-pay business processes.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to recommend and implement best practices, processes, and technologies.
    Other duties as assigned
  • Train and cross-train FPB staff on business processes and systems; provide mentorship to FPB program staff.
  • Provide backup support in providing guidance to the campus Shared Environments.
  • Other duties as assigned.
    Lead Responsibilities:
  • Lead the work of EBS Workday Analysts. Assign project, provide coaching, consultation and guidance for project resolutions.
  • Provide feedback to EBS Workday Analysts.
  • Provide input to EBS Workday Analysts’ performance evaluations.
  • Collaborate and work with the EBS project manager and communication change manager to ensure project goals are met and updates and training are pushed to campus.
    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Informatics, or related field and 6 years of progressively responsible experience in complex analysis and tasks involving the development, implementation, and support of enterprise-wide applications and services in multiple languages and environments.
  • OR CPA AND 3 years of progressive experience.
  • OR Master’s Degree AND 3 years of progressive experience.
  • Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Significant understanding of technical and financial terms, business processes, and financial reporting.
  • Advanced Workday functional and design knowledge in reporting, configuration, and other technical topics.
  • Demonstrated experience in working on, communicating with, and building relationships with diverse groups and teams; respects, values, and contributes to FPB and UW’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity.
  • Experience with system implementation deliverables and related analysis, including scope definition, requirements gathering, business process re-engineering, it-gap analysis, the total cost of ownership, benefits analysis, and business process improvement.
  • Advanced ability to develop efficient and effective analytic methodologies and approaches to generate value, address a broad range of operational and performance issues, execute the analysis in a timely, accurate and reliable manner, and communicate findings clearly and concisely to diverse business leaders, key contributors and stakeholders.
    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Have specialist knowledge and experience in Grant & Research Accounting, Procurement and Supply Chain Management, or GAAP Accounting.
