Associate General Counsel - Commercial/Tech Transactions

Quora’s mission is to share and grow the world’s knowledge. We are seeking a pragmatic, business-oriented senior counsel with deep experience negotiating a range of commercial and technology agreements to join our growing legal team. The role will involve cross-functional work and the ability to wear many hats in a fast growing, consumer internet company. The position will serve as a function lead and important member of the legal department as it scales over time.

Responsibilities

• Agreements - Your primary responsibility will be reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements and technology transactions for IT, infrastructure, engineering, marketing, recruiting, and product operations, as well as for strategic partnerships. As commercial agreement lead, you will manage and continually improve the process for closing agreements as a trusted partner to the business teams. You will advise business teams on legal issues, risks, company policies and procedures, IP, and business strategy. Over time as the company scales, you will build out and lead the commercial team.
• Data Protection Compliance - You will be fluent in data protection requirements for our vendor agreements. You will develop and oversee the strategy of compliance of all agreements with GDPR and CCPA.
• Other Legal Needs – You will have the opportunity to work on a variety of other matters.

Minimum Qualifications

• J.D. and member in good standing of the California State Bar
• At least 7 years of commercial agreement/ technology transactions experience
• Deep understanding of data privacy requirements for agreements
• Strong sense of customer service when working with internal and external customers
• Flexible, positive, communicative team player with outstanding interpersonal skills
• Ability to work with fast-paced team, cross-functionally, and collaboratively
• Good problem solver, clear strategic thinker and ability to frame complex legal, compliance and regulatory issues for non-experts
• Indomitable integrity and strong work ethic

Preferred Qualifications

• In-house legal experience
• Media, adtech, international and/or open source experience
