Job Description
At Plaid, we work at the intersection of technology and finance on disruptive innovations that require creative and pragmatic legal solutions. We deal with novel issues every day that require cross-functional work across Plaid’s compliance, product, engineering, and business teams. We’re looking for a thoughtful and strategic lawyer to join our growing legal team as an Employment Counsel. Based in San Francisco, in this role you will be primarily responsible for advising on a broad range of employment law matters, including matters related to recruitment, employee relations, compensation and benefits, wage and hour, immigration, and workplace investigations. As the first full-time employment specialist on our Legal team, we’re looking for a collaborative and pragmatic team member who can help us grow responsibly.
What Excites You
- Advising the People Operations team and other stakeholders on relevant employment law matters
- Coordinating and collaborating cross-functionally on employment-related matters
- Drafting and maintaining templates and policies for employment matters (e.g., employee handbooks, codes of conduct, and internal procedures)
- Negotiating and managing employment-related documents, including contractor agreements, separation agreements, and employment agreements
- Anticipating and identifying legal risks related to employment policies and decisions, and proposing creative and effective solutions to address those risks
- Monitoring and analyzing legal and policy developments relevant to employment law, as well as evolving best practices
What Excites Us
- J.D. degree, with at least 4 years of relevant legal experience at a top law firm employment practice or in-house legal department, preferably at a fast-growing startup
- Familiarity with key aspects of employment law, including internal investigations, wage and hour issues, whistleblower protections, and matters related to discrimination, harassment, and retaliation
- Experience with employment law in non-US jurisdictions, including the United Kingdom, Canada, and the Netherlands
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills, with attention to detail
- Good sense of humor
- Admitted to the California Bar in good standing, or eligible to register as in-house counsel with the California Bar
