We are looking for a passionate and seasoned colleague to build and enhance strong relationships with the STM library community to develop Elsevier’s reputation as a trusted, innovative, and collaborative partner. Librarians and the needs of the library community are and remain important to Elsevier and this role would be the voice of the library community in Elsevier - internally and externally. This senior role builds on extensive existing networks at Elsevier and leverages the broad array of library-related resources across the company. The global library relations program will focus on four areas: (1) the communication agenda, (2) collaboration with key library organizations, (3) partnerships with leading institutions, and (4) an engagement program at selected global events. The Global Library Relations Vice President will use his or her expertise to develop and apply a strategic framework across Elsevier’s business units in support of a long term engagement and partnership strategy with the library world. Working Together In order to be successful, the Global Library Relations VP needs deep knowledge of the decision-making processes of the library community, the universities and their leadership. The Global Library Relations will report to SVP in Research Networks and work with leaders in Marketing, Sales, Product Management, Global Strategic Networks, Access & Policy and Global Communication across Elsevier to build and execute a comprehensive strategic framework in library relations. This position can be home-based in the US or based in New York, Cambridge, MA or Philadelphia where Elsevier has offices. - Understand, develop, and influence the scholarly communication agenda from the perspective of the academic library within and outside Elsevier, including the library role in the research process, research data management, user education, digital preservation, and multi-stakeholder engagement
- Collaborate with priority library organisations and key influential librarians for Elsevier to establish and develop strong relationships
- Build relations with key institutions by engaging regularly with important librarians, media outlets, holding workshops, and participating in relevant conferences
- Attend and speak at key events to develop Elsevier as a trusted, innovative, and collaborative partner for the STM library and information community.
- Demonstrated excellent ambassadorial qualities to effectively promote Elsevier actively and publicly; highly respected by the librarian community
- Excellent, authoritative, and credible written and verbal communication skills: able to engage in debate in an open, assertive and non-defensive manner
- Demonstrated networking abilities among senior library community leaders and well-connected with library organizations
- Exhibits drive, and enthusiasm: takes initiative and innovates, shows entrepreneurial instinct. Capable of working independently and shows good judgement
- Effectively collaborates with colleagues, takes the lead to coordinate when needed
- Familiar with library policies and practices
- Familiar with best practices and policies related to research integrity and research data management
- Knowledge of access and entitlement policies, information resource licensing; e.g., ILL, Creative Commons
- A degree in library science as well as library work experience would be an asset.
- Strong interest or track record in data science, research data, research data management a plus.
