Job Description

Overview

The Software Architect acts as senior technical leadership for a program area or a domain of expertise. They are expected to collaborate across team boundaries and ensure architectural vision is consistent across their area and aligned with the enterprise vision. Works closely with stakeholders such as product management, and R&D teams and respective technical leadership of those teams to ensure those product areas are aligned to the vision.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the development, implementation and evolution of high-level architectural plans at the program level
• Participates in architectural committee and helps review architectures for their area of expertise
• Helps execute departmental strategic initiatives and strategic initiatives within their domain of expertise
• Create and communicate vision and strategy at the program level
• Works closely with and mentors product architects to ensure product architecture aligns with vision
• Mentors, influences, and collaborates with team members. Provides performance feedback to managers.
• Focuses on the architectural and technology needs to grow the business over the longer-term horizon.
• Consults on complex projects requiring state of the art technical or industry knowledge
• Researches the application of advances in technology
• Collaborates heavily with VPs, enterprise architects, and colleagues to execute on departmental and other strategic initiatives.
• Assists with the creation, socialization, and execution of the architectural program vision in alignment with the strategic architectural vision
• Works closely with product management to help align product strategy with architectural vision within the domains of expertise

Qualifications

• Knowledge of professional software development practices and best practices for the full SDLC, including: coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes and testing
• Exceptional critical thinking and problem solving skills
• Speak or write with ease, clarity and impact, using communication style(s) appropriate to the subject and the audience
• Demonstrated ability to develop and use engaging, informative and compelling presentation methodologies
• Ability to translate between business and technical domains
• Exceptional collaboration skills, applied successfully within team and all levels of employees in other areas, as well as, ability to work independently as needed
• Demonstrated ability to influence, motivate and mobilize team members and business partners
• Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the principal duties of the job
• Typically requires BS/MS or equivalent and 10+ years of related and progressively more responsible experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the principal duties of the job
• Experience mentoring other technical roles especially
• Demonstrated success using Agile development methodologies or willingness to learn Agile, Scrum, or other appropriate principles and methodologies
• Demonstrated ability to create long term sustainable, maintainable, and high performance architectures
• Demonstrated ability to create and socialize architectural vision
• Demonstrated ability to innovate
• Demonstrates ability to stay current with modern day development practices
