The Editor-in-Chief will have the unique opportunity to shape a prominent journal covering vibrant areas of physics research and lead an editorial team according to his or her creative vision. As a respected member of the global research community, the Editor-in-Chief will create a high-impact journal grounded in a strong understanding of the needs of authors, readers, and reviewers from the physics community. S/he will be responsible for defining the aims, scope, and formats for the journal, building an impressive network of leading researchers working in relevant areas, recruiting exciting and world-leading studies, and ensuring the quality and value of the journal as a forum for the best research, analysis and ideas. The Editor-in-Chief will need to create and develop a broad, impactful, topical and cohesive journal that appeals to a wide community of contemporary international physics researchers. The journal’s strong contribution to the field will complement the premium chemistry and energy journals from Cell Press, Chem and Joule, as well as the new Cell Press journals Matter (covering materials science) and One Earth (covering sustainability). This is a full-time editorial position. We are open to candidates who would be located at the Cell Press headquarters in Cambridge, MA, USA or in our London, UK office. Previous editorial and/or management experience is strongly preferred. The key qualities we look for are breadth of scientific interest and curiosity, the ability to think conceptually and critically about a wide range of scientific issues, advanced communication skills, leadership ability, and an aptitude for teamwork. As a member of the editorial and scientific community, the Editor-in-Chief will also have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to bring/build an exceptional and wide network of international contacts. He/she will travel extensively to attend conferences and visit research institutions. The Editor-in-Chief will be expected to collaborate with internal colleagues in production, marketing and business development and to contribute to the overall publishing strategy of the Journal and Cell Press as a whole. Applications will be considered on an ongoing basis until the role is filled. How to apply: This is a full-time in-house editorial position. Applications will be held in the strictest confidence and will be considered on a rolling basis. To apply, please submit: - A resume and a cover letter explaining your interest in the position. - A selection of 6-8 recently published articles that you feel reflect the character of the new physics journal you would wish to create. (Provide the full reference and link to the article, and give a brief rationale for your choice). - A brief discussion (<500 words) on what you consider to be the most pressing research questions in the field of physics.
