Data Science Engineer

Job Description

We’re looking for a Data Science Engineer who can help us solve new problems in the production systems, supporting Data Scientists to create scalable implementations of our algorithms. SpotX runs a real-time video advertising system for Connected TVs, streaming video systems, and websites worldwide. We reach millions of consumers daily. Our systems typically process tens of billions of events per day. The Data Science team supports the Engineering teams by developing machine learning and data crunching algorithms to solve for a number of solutions and applications for customers. Our team consists of Data Scientists, Data Science Engineers and Data Engineers who may solve problems in groups or individually. We work directly with engineering, business, and product leaders to develop analytic tools, build optimization models, identify new data sources, deliver key insights, and more. How you'll make an immediate impact:

• Be a strategic partner for the business define critical analytical problems and find innovative solutions with data
• Support other team members on projects
• Drive the direction of your work, developing solutions that span from scrappy code, prototype tools, create powerful dashboards and production algorithms
• Spearhead the creation and implementation of metrics that provide insight and impact decision-making
• Partner closely with Data Scientists and Engineers to source data from new systems and strengthen our foundational data models

What we're looking for:

• A strong communicator and planner
• A strong software engineer familiar with writing and shipping code
• Ideally have a proven track record of data wrangling, analysis, reporting & visualization
• Enthusiastic about innovating and learning
• Comfortable with ambiguity; able to thrive with minimal oversight and process
• An expert in a data-oriented programming language (e.g. SQL, Python, R, Scala)
• Familiar with or willing to learn Pandas, SciPy, NumPy and Python notebooks
• Familiar with or willing to learn technologies like PySpark, Kafka, Hive
• Willing to pair with real-time systems engineers who may code parts of our algorithms in C++ or similar languages

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree (BA) from four-year college or university, or one to two years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
