Chemical Engineering interns will gain exposure to applied research in an industrial setting, using modern organic chemistry, engineering, and analytical methodologies. The candidate will work closely with project engineers and scientists to help drive the overall program progress on a technical level.

Job Description and Focus Areas

Areas of focus may include:

• Conduct literature study/search within project’s scope of work and present results to the team
• Design and conduct experiments in synthetic organic chemistry lab, with a focus on process development and scale-up
• Use experimental data and data analysis to develop cost effective, scalable processes
• Work closely with the analytical chemistry team to understand analysis of experimental results and draw conclusions

Qualifications/Experience

This position is geared towards candidates currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in chemical engineering, however candidates pursuing degrees in chemistry, polymer science, materials science or other quantitative discipline will be considered if they have a passion for process development, applied research, scale-up, and the promise of synthetic biology. A sense of urgency, flexibility, and clear, concise communication (both verbal and written) are critical, as well as a commitment to safety. Fluency with Microsoft Office application suite and equivalents (e.g., Google Drive) is expected. Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We are not able to sponsor individuals for employment visas for this job.

Additional Details This position will involve a 50/50 split between desk work and laboratory duties. The qualified candidate will be brought up to speed on all relevant training beyond fundamental organic chemistry and engineering concepts.
