Samsara’s mission is to accelerate the adoption of IoT sensors and software to improve industrial efficiency, safety, and quality at a massive scale. As a Software Engineer on the Hardware Tools & Automation team, you will work on developing highly leveraged software solutions that enable our team to design, develop, and deploy hardware at a fast pace and with high confidence. This includes projects such as building tools to validate and compare new hardware components under consideration and building automated cellular & GPS CI/CD platforms.

In this role, you will work on:

• Partnering with Product, Firmware, and Hardware Engineering to define product quality goals and design automation infrastructure to improve product validation coverage and quality
• Designing & building hardware/firmware automation test benches that continuously test product performance across radios & sensors; GPS, Cellular, IMU, Bluetooth, WiFi
• Building tools that help in the hardware development process such as automated tests for EVT/DVT/PVT validation phases
• Building tools that help product, operations, and engineering gain insights and understand product performance
• Support development tools such as build pipelines, etc.
• Championing, role modeling, and embedding Samsara’s cultural principles (Obsess Over the Customer, Build for the Long Term, Growth Mindset) as we scale globally and across new offices

An ideal candidate has:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a technical field, Computer Science coursework preferred
• 3+ years of industry experience in tools or test automation, Engineering, and preferably startup experience
• Experienced working with hardware teams
• Strong technical understanding of distributed systems, ability to learn quickly, and establish credibility with engineers
• Bias-to-action, you’re not afraid to get your hands dirty
• Strong communication skills, comfortable working with teams from diverse backgrounds
• Proven experience in coding and scripting in Python
