Job Description
We're excited to make our first hire for the Strategic Finance & Business Operations team! You will lay the foundation for all aspects of Mixmax’s data-driven problem solving and decision making.
In Strategic Finance & Business Operations, you’ll ensure the company’s functional leaders have an analytical partner. You will be expected to apply business judgment and financial insights to drive decision making related to unit economics, customer acquisition, operations, core business expansion, and new opportunities. This is a highly visible role within Mixmax that requires someone who can build rapport and earn trust, cross-functionally, and across our distributed team.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Finance:
- Build and own the company model to distill the company’s business’ goals and execution plan into a quantitative model
- Ensure headcount growth fits in with company goals and budgets by partnering with HR & Talent on company-wide headcount needs and compensation reviews
- Collaborate with accounting to ensure financial statements reflect useful data to facilitate financial analysis
- Produce and maintain monthly and quarterly reporting for the company, investors, and board.
Business Operations:
- Structure and execute on projects designed to increase growth, productivity, and operational efficiency by developing rollout plans, analyzing data, and delivering recommendations.
- Partner with functional leaders to improve processes with a goal of better efficiency and data quality.
- Create and test hypotheses regarding operational efficiency by applying a data-driven approach to problem-solving with key performance metrics, tracking progress and quantifying the impact on company performance.
Sample Projects in the first 90 days:
- Take ownership of the company model and update the rolling forecast with actual financials
- Ensure the lead to closed-won conversion funnel is properly instrumented and accurate, and create related Salesforce dashboards for Sales & Marketing leadership
- Draft monthly performance for major investors
- Assist in the preparation of materials for the Board meeting, (including making slides look consistent)
- Ensuring data cleanliness e.g., Manually cleanse data, and reconciling data from two systems that should produce the same results but don’t
Preferred qualifications and skills:
- 4+ years of total experience including 1+ years of investment banking or management consulting and 1+ years of business operations or strategic finance in a high-growth environment
- Experience working with or for a B2B SaaS business or startup
- Experience working with Salesforce
- Strong understanding of three financial statement operating models
- You are a team player and love to deliver outstanding results. You get energy from helping others.
- You can think across multiple dimensions of a business (sales, product, marketing etc.) and work cross-functionally to deliver results
- You are analytical and data-driven -- you can define KPIs and measure progress/success for your initiatives
- You want to work in a fast-paced environment with constant change
- You are resourceful and not afraid to roll up your sleeves. Someone who understands that startups require people who are willing to do tedious administrative work in addition to the exciting strategic thinking.
