Job Description
LaunchDarkly is on a mission to help every software team deliver and control their software with Feature Management. While LaunchDarkly has makes software delivery faster and safer, Feature Management is a foundational software development practice that can empower the whole team. LaunchDarkly has been moving beyond the core deployment practices in Feature Management to help our customers adopt more sophisticated experimentation techniques that emphasize learning. By controlling exactly how, when and to whom new features are delivery, software teams gain an amazing opportunity to experiment and learn about the work they are doing. They can validate hypothesis for new changes, they can learn and incorporate user feedback quickly, and they can measure the impact of the work they are producing. Experimentation with LaunchDarkly feature management can help you do all of this. We are looking for engineering leaders with significant professional experience with experimentation practices to increase our focus on this aspect of our product. We want candidates with first-hand experience building and/or using such a tool in a high-volume production context. We're looking for just such a talented and inspirational engineer to help lead our experimentation focus area. Engineers in this role can expect to balance their time making direct engineering contributions, working with PM and Design counterparts, and leading and mentoring a team. We're looking for someone with a passion for bringing the power of intelligent experimentation to the whole industry. We believe every software team can benefit from using experiments and measurements and we want your help making that vision reality.
What you'll get to do:
- Help guide the technical and product vision for Experimentation inside LaunchDarkly.
- Work with a talented team of engineers, PMs and Designers to make our customers more successful experimenters.
- Guide our technical architecture to meet the ever-increasing increasing customer demand.
- Help your team understand their mission and how they fit in with the overall business goals.
- Prioritize a roadmap that balances feature delivery, operational health, and bug fixing;
- Lead your team to deliver while keeping developers motivated, empowered, growing and happy.
- Provide a great example of how to use a practice of experimentation and measurement to make great products.
On day one, you should have:
- Professional experience with an experimentation platform, internal or external, either building one or expert-level use.
- Fluency with the statistics underpinning experimentation.
- Experience with high-volume data platforms and tools.
- Proven experience and fluency with server-side web development (e.g. in Java / Scala, Ruby, Python, Golang, Node.js ).
- Experience designing and building RESTful APIs.
- Strong computer science fundamentals: data structures, distributed systems, concurrency, and threading.
- Experience using AWS in scaled production uses.
All LaunchDarkly Engineers should have:
- Strong communication skills, a positive attitude, and empathy
- A habit of writing code that can be easily understood by others, with an eye towards maintainability.
- A high bar of accountability and quality required for working with production systems.
- A commitment to high code quality, automated testing, and other engineering best practices.
