Job Description
Job Summary Database Administrator: Plans computerized databases, including base definition, structure, documentation, long-range requirements, operational guidelines and protection. Ensures accuracy and completeness of data in master files and various support tools, such as base dictionaries. Establishes and maintains security and integrity controls. Formulates and monitors policies, procedures and standards relating to database management. Proposes and implements enhancements that will improve the performance and reliability of the system. Note: May be internal or external, client-focused, working in conjunction with Professional Services and outsourcing functions. May include company-wide, web-enabled solutions. Job Requirements - Excellent oral and written communication skills; including documentation.- Ability to work collaboratively within a team of other Storage Systems Administrators to support deadlines; ability to work independently as well.- Ability to handle multiple complex tasks, with tight deadlines concurrently.- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.- Demonstrated ability to perform well in a dynamic environment, with on-time delivery.- Knowledge of:TCP/IP networkingNFSNISDNSUnix Account ManagementFile permissions- 3 to 5 years of experience with Unix operating systems shell scripting.- Efficient user of Microsoft Office tools including Excel, Word, Outlook and Visio.- Ability to follow and adhere to policies, procedures and standards relating to Systems management. May recommend process improvements.- Knowledge of Solaris, Redhat and Windows operating systems.- Knowledge of WAN data replication techniques.- Ability to work a 24x7 on-call rotation schedule.Responsibility and Interaction:Responsibility: - The tasks this individual is responsible are often unstructured and the issues addressed are less defined requiring new perspectives and creative approaches.- This individual will apply attained experiences and knowledge in solving problems that are complex in scope requiring in-depth evaluation. - Demonstrate good judgment in solving problems as well as identifying problems in advance, and proposing solutions.Interaction: - This individual must work effectively with Staff to Vice President level employees within the function, across functions and with external parties. - Limited supervision and direction is provided, as this individual can operate and drive results and set priorities independently. - The ideal candidate will be a proactive contributor and subject matter expert.- To be successful, this individual must demonstrate favorable results through regular leadership and influencing others. Education Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years experience; or equivalent experience.
