Location: First Hill Surgery Center
POSITION OBJECTIVE:
The Director of Nursing will be responsible for the day to day management of clinical and related operations of the surgery center, The Director of Nursing will collaborate with the Executive Director, physicians, supervisors, and staff to develop and implement policies and procedures regarding patient care in the OR setting to ensure patient safety, satisfaction and flow in a manner which is consistent with surgery center’s mission and values.
Personnel Management
- Assist clinical department Supervisors to recruit and hire the most qualified candidates for positions within the surgery center.
- Communicate, implement, and follow personnel policies and procedures within the Surgery center
- Coordinate with Human Resources and Executive Director when issues arise regarding personnel policies and procedures.
- Coordinate with clinical supervisors to define staffing requirements that are in alignment with regulations/guidelines, within the budget, and ensure that staffing levels are met.
- Assure that each new clinical employee completes an orientation and that the employee performs the required duties of his/her job effectively and efficiently.
- Ensure staff performance reviews are completed according to organization policy.
- Identify training needs of individuals and groups of staff and ensure they are met and ensure continuous in service training requirements are met.
Budget and Financial Performance
- Collaborate with the Executive Director in budget development and monitoring as they relate to the Surgery center.
- Monitor block time utilization and collaborate with the Executive Director regarding allocation of block time.
- Meet or exceed budgetary and financial goals.
Process Management
- Participate, communicate and implement practice and business policies and procedures, and assure that staff functions within those policies and procedures.
- Understand and communicate the value of staff contributions to the performance of the organization.
- Identify and request supplies, equipment, technology and other resources necessary for high quality patient care and efficient function of the surgery center
- Coordinate operations within the Surgery center and Surgeons offices
- Communicate and coordinate surgery center needs to the Executive Director.
Quality Management / Patient Satisfaction
- Monitor and maintain the performance practice standards, and work with physicians and office staff to assure that defined target standards for surgery scheduling, productivity, customer service and other business performance standards are met.
- Respond to customer complaints and concerns related to the Surgery center, communicate those concerns to the Executive Director and implement appropriate actions to resolve them.
- Document and report incidents and coordinate with the Executive Director and Quality Coordinator to assure that steps are taken to prevent recurrence.
- Maintain compliance with all regulatory agencies appropriate for Ambulatory surgery centers.
- Assure that the activities within the surgery center are in compliance with local, state and federal regulatory requirements.
Leadership
- Act as a problem solving and decision making resource to staff and physician.
- Provide direction to staff and Physicians while supporting the organization’s mission, vision, values and goals.
- Provide support to staff and physicians during periods of change.
- Act as a role model in providing customer- based service.
- Work to maintain high morale and job satisfaction amongst surgery center staff.
- Promote the development of self- directed teams with in the surgery center
- Practice positive communication skills with physicians, staff, and other internal and external customers.
- Assume project leadership on department strategic initiatives.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing degree required
- Master’s Degree preferred
Experience:
- 3-5 years in a Director position in an ambulatory surgical setting required.
Certification/Licensure:
- Current license in Washington State as a Registered Nurse
- CPR certification required
- ACLS certification required
- PALS certification required
Skills:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Experience using primary computer applications and E.H.R. software
- Knowledge of process management and improvement and excellent problem solving
- Strong leadership skills with emphasis on the ability to lead leaders
