Backend Systems Engineer

As a backend systems engineer, you will be responsible for helping to maintain machine learning algorithms, including proprietary genetic algorithms, modifications to open source libraries, and other infrastructure that’s essential to modern machine-learning workflows. You will be building, optimizing, and debugging high-performance machine-learning algorithm implementations, distributed and network tools, database and caching logic, and other tools that we need to develop quickly but where correctness and good performance are essential to users every day. You will be jumping into existing codebases, figuring out how they work and figuring out how to make them do what they need to do.

The ideal candidate can quickly and effectively dive into large existing codebases, figure out how they work, and fix bugs and add features.

Requirements

• Industrial software development experience in a language such as C/C++ or C# or Scala/Java
• Experience writing multithreaded code
• Experience with Python

Bonus Points

• Experience or education in machine learning and/or data mining
• Experience or education in systems programming
• Linux systems administration and/or shell scripting expertise
