In your role as VP Engineering, you will drive the technical roadmap, including the strategy, architecture, and development of Creative Market’s software solutions. Working very closely with and reporting to the General Manager, the VP of Engineering will play a highly collaborative role, working closely with leadership in defining long-term site strategies. You’ll play a key role managing a team that builds a reliable, scalable, secure and highly performant technology stack using industry best practices. You will recruit, hire, nurture and retain an engineering team with high standards for work quality and communication. Partnering closely with our product organization and other senior leaders, you’ll help ensure a productive team that consistently delivers results, and set the long-term strategy to ensure our engineering organization is always ready for the next chapter. Serving as a technical expert and leader, you’ll take ownership for leading the engineering function at Creative Market.
In your first six months here , you will dive into the existing development processes at Creative Market, and will prioritize projects that will help accomplish the company’s vision. You will begin executing on your roadmap, coordinating and communicating development activities and priorities within the engineering team, partnering with Product Management to plan release scope and delivery schedule, and working closely with senior engineers to develop the best technical design and approach for new product development. You’ll use data to measure the success of initiatives, improve on existing processes, and build new ones. You will work with the leadership and product teams to continue building a superior product, and perform engineering design evaluations and ensure the completion of projects within resource, budget, and scheduling restraints.As a member of the Creative Market leadership team, you will be expected to be a proactive and positive member of the global design community through thought leadership, writing, attending events, and public speaking.
As VP Engineering, you’ll be responsible for:
- Personnel management: You will work closely with the executive and product teams to shape and lead Creative Market’s engineering team. You’ll employ outstanding leadership and team building skills to coach, manage and mentor your existing team, and you’ll be responsible for recruiting, hiring, growing, and retaining amazing talent into the organization.
- Technical leadership and engineering execution: You will be responsible for the building of a reliable, scalable, secure and highly performant technology stack using industry best practices. You’ll work with the product team to ensure our architecture is flexible and scalable to support expanding business lines and features, and you’ll take ownership for consistently delivering meaningful features, applications and technology solutions that solve business problems, using metrics and data to measure results.
- Strategy: This is a strategic role, and you will be responsible for working with other functions, including the Executive team, Product Management, Finance Operations, and Design departments to build a technology strategy that aligns with the company’s direction, driving new business and growth through engineering solutions. Most importantly, you’ll take ownership: for the development process, team performance, and customer satisfaction.
We believe it’s important for you to have:
- 8+ years engineering management experience in growing engineering organizations; you have proven experience overseeing engineering recruiting, and scaling engineering teams.
- Deep experience building large-scale technology and applications that are reliable, scalable, secure, and highly performant using industry best practices.
- The ability to act as a strategic partner who can translate business problems to technology solutions ; you have a proven ability to prioritize and execute, based on what will be most impactful to the business.
- Exceptional leadership and management skills. You promote a culture of continuous learning to improve execution, and remove roadblocks that are holding the team back. You have a passion for developing the skills and talents of those on your team, and you actively promote an inspiring and inclusive environment.
- Experience leading multiple teams, simultaneously deployed against diverse projects and properties, employing PMO skills and Agile methodology (e.g. Scrum, Kanban) to ensure high cross functional engagement, visibility, quality and on time delivery.
- A demonstrated track record of innovation ; you are excited by solving hard problems that deliver meaningful financial outcomes for the business.
- Stellar people, persuasion, and presentation skills ; you can communicate in writing and verbally with clarity and precision.
- Some familiarity with our tech stack , which includes PHP7 (Laravel 5 + Custom PHP framework), Vue.js, SCSS/SASS, MySQL, Memcached, ElasticSearch. We work with PHPUnit, Cypress, and other automated testing frameworks.
- A love of working remotely. You have experience working remotely, and managing a fully distributed team.
