Who You'll Work With

You’ll work in our Toronto, Canada or Denver, Colorado USA office as part of our Basic Materials practice. Our Metals service line within the Basic Materials practice brings a unique blend of industry, functional and regional expertise to help metals companies solve their most important and complex problems—and deliver fundamental, measurable, and lasting performance improvements in a commodity world that has become more challenging and volatile. What You'll Do

You will deliver metals business and operations content knowledge (with a focus on metals production and processing operations), working either directly with clients and client project teams. In this role, you will be responsible for identifying issues, forming hypotheses, designing and conducting analysis, synthesizing conclusions into recommendations and helping to implement change with our clients. Throughout an engagement, you may also be responsible for presenting results to client management and implementing recommendations with client team members.You will assist clients in plant operations, data collection and verification, and perform quantitative analysis of client data and incorporate qualitative observations. You will conduct on-site assessments of clients’ operating performance based on a standardized set of criteria. You’ll benchmark the key performance indicators and identify the gaps in operating performance with best practices. You will observe and understand the technical differences of the client plant with the best practice facility and leverage that information to conduct factor analysis explaining the performance gaps. You will identify the main improvement opportunities and actions and deliver recommendations to senior clients and front line managers.You’ll have the opportunity to maintain and continually refresh the set of benchmarking data and direct our analysts to generate reports based on these benchmarks and site observations. You will participate in new product developments of innovative approaches to metallurgical data analytics. You’ll maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and competitor offerings, and you’ll have the chance to continuously learn about technological development in the industry worldwide.You will maintain or develop a strong internal reputation and network with client teams and be “in the flow” of new external thinking including maintaining or developing an external reputation. You will help build the company’s metals capabilities particularly in the area of advanced analytics applied to processing plants. You will renew personal knowledge and expertise over time to remain at the leading edge of the field. Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in engineering or advanced degree in metallurgy, mineral processing or materials engineering; MBA is a plus
• 3-7 years of work experience with a distinctive record of achievement and impact
• Exposure and deep knowledge in at least one major commodity (aluminum, steel or copper preferred)
• Field-based experience working on projects in the metals industry
• Knowledge of continuous improvement programs like Lean/Six Sigma is a plus
• Exposure to advanced analytics and/or data science projects applied to operations is a plus
• Exceptional problem-solving skills
• Strong personal drive and motivation
• Proven ability to lead teams, motivate others, gain the respect of clients and colleagues, and work collaboratively but also autonomously with little direction
• Ability to grasp and communicate complex ideas clearly
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Flexibility to travel 60%-80% domestically with occasional international travel
