We are seeking an experienced Android Developer who is passionate about architecting and implementing experiences that delight our users. You’ll have the opportunity to add value to the Degreed platform and innovate on new ideas that can help our team adopt new ways of having our clients and their employees engage with Degreed. This position will report to the Engineering Manager of our Mobile team.
Day in the Life
- Architect, develop and maintain the Degreed mobile application on the Android platform
- Write safe and secure code using Kotlin, Java, SQLite, and the Android SDK
- Inform on and adhere to Android development best practices, including unit tests
- Collaborate with product owners to ensure features and changes meet business requirements and fulfill Degreed’s strategy
- Translate complex technical ideas and implementations into easy to understand documentation
- Work closely with designers, UX, and other developers to gain an understanding of new features, dependencies, and technical details
- Share your passion when discovering and applying what you learn to new challenges
- Operate autonomously with minimal direction, while being highly organized and detail-oriented
- Learn, grow professionally, contribute to an amazing team, and play a key role in fueling a massive change in learning and learning recognition
Who You Are
- 5+ years with Android applications and services
- 5+ years of experience with securely consuming REST APIs in a mobile application context
- 5+ years of experience coding in statically typed languages and native Android development frameworks (Kotlin/Java preferred)
- 3+ years of experience working with local application database for caching application data
- 3+ years of experience creating highly scalable systems and frameworks
What Will Set You Apart
- Familiarity with Observables/RxJava a plus
- Google Associate Android Developer or related certifications
- SQLite with encryption a plus
- Experienced working remotely
- Willingness to proactively seek out creative solutions for the Degreed platform at large

Work Environment & Physical Demands Degreed is a remote-first company, however our roles are open to in-office or flex work if you live in a city with a physical office location (when it is safe to return to the office). This role has the opportunity to operate 100% virtually from your home office. We primarily collaborate with our US and International colleagues through virtual meetings (Zoom), email, and Slack. In this role, you will be required to operate a lap computer (PC or Mac available), computer software platforms, and other office productivity machinery as necessary. Due to the nature of this role, you must be able to remain stationary for extended periods, and must be able to observe and interpret written and/or verbal communication.
