Job Description
Bloom Institute of Technology (
BloomTech ) fka Lambda School is on a mission to pioneer a new model of accessible higher education with no upfront costs and where the school invests in the students instead of the other way around. We are rethinking learning so that we can address the needs of both students and employers in tandem. We’re a progressive alternative to traditional college and fast track bootcamps. BloomTech is an intensive program and an immersive live, online curriculum that teaches people the hard and soft skills they need to launch a new tech career. We offer both full time and part time courses to our students. BloomTech has successfully completed funding rounds with premier tier venture investors and we have students in almost every State across the United States. We’re looking for passionate, talented people who want to change the way the world thinks about higher education and unlock human potential, regardless of circumstance. If that sounds exciting to you, let’s talk. Our success depends on building teams who can challenge each other's assumptions with fresh perspectives. To that end, we don’t just accept differences – we celebrate them. BloomTech welcomes a diverse pool of applicants, including those from historically marginalized groups and non-traditional backgrounds who can appreciate the diverse student communities that we serve and are looking to grow into. This includes women, people with disabilities, people of color, formerly incarcerated people, individuals who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and/or gender nonconforming, first and second generation immigrants, veterans, and people from different socioeconomic backgrounds. The primary goal of the Labs program at Lambda School is to prepare learners for a successful technology career by giving them experience in planning, designing, implementing, and delivering software products in a highly collaborative work environment. The Associate Data Science Lead (ADSL) role is critical to the experience of learners in Labs. The ADSL’s mission is to assist Labs learner teams with DS-specific issues and challenges. The ADSL will monitor DS-track learners across teams to ensure they’re able to quickly resolve challenges. In addition, an ADSL works to provide continuity and clear communication among Labs Managers, learner teams, and product stakeholders. In Lambda School Labs, learners develop real products for real nonprofits and cause organizations. Another critical aspect of the ADSL role is to work with Labs staff to maintain DS-related features for one or more of these products as part of an “inner-source” workflow, overseeing the continuous integration and deployment of code and infrastructure produced by learners. You’ll provide feedback and support to learners working on your product(s) by reviewing pull requests, providing feedback, monitoring communications, responding to questions, and updating documentation. Our program and our staff are fully remote. The school operates on Pacific Time and this role covers our full-time & part-time learners.
What You'll Do:
- Serve as a feature maintainer for the data science elements of one or more Labs products.
- Oversee the DS learners working on your product(s), and filter up status reports and escalations to staff.
- Coordinate DS-related development efforts requiring cross-team communication and/or collaboration.
- Provide DS technical support to learner teams working on your product(s) as well as individual learners.
- Maintain DS contribution guidelines for each product along with Labs Product Managers.
- Review DS pull requests from students and provide constructive feedback.
- Attend Labs stakeholder meetings to help communicate DS progress on your products and solicit questions and feedback from client organizations.
- Communicate and collaborate with Labs staff to ensure learners’ needs are being met.
- Work closely with Labs staff to ensure that DS-track learners in Labs are job ready.
- Propose and develop innovative solutions to further enhance our learner experience.
What You'll Need:
- 1–2 years experience developing software (Python preferred)
- 1–2 years experience working on a software engineering team
- 1–2 years experience using git and GitHub, and a willingness to become highly proficient
- 1–2 years experience with project management tools (Trello, Asana, Jira, etc.)
- 1–2 years experience documenting processes and standards (examples encouraged)
- 1–2 years experience with the agile software development lifecycle (Agile, Scrum, etc.)
- 1–2 years experience providing high-quality technical feedback
- 1–2 years experience maintaining open-source software preferred
- 1–2 years experience working in a CI/CD (continuous integration/continuous delivery) environment preferred
