New Therapeutics Modalities (NTM) organization at Lilly has an exciting opportunity for an analytical chemist to join our RNA therapeutics drug discovery program. You will be part of a diverse team of chemists and biologists working on a broad range of platforms developing single and double stranded oligonucleotide therapeutics.

Top candidates for this position will be able to:

  • Enable the design, development, and implementation of analytical methodologies for the characterization and analysis of small molecules and oligonucleotides.
  • Show proficiency in multiple modes of chromatography, mass spectrometry, optical spectroscopy, instrument engineering, or other analytical technologies.
  • Develop strategies for instrument integration with automated data analysis workflows and process sampling interfaces.

The ideal candidate will have breadth in multiple analytical techniques (UHPLC, LC-MS, IEX, SEC, CGE, CD, viscometry, osmolality) used in the analysis of synthetic molecules especially chemically modified oligonucleotides. Must be computer savvy with the ability to navigate multiple instrument control software and data analysis environments, have strong technical problem-solving ability, and have an internal motivation to work independently and achieve efficient, quality results in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Analysis of chemically synthesized oligonucleotide: UPLC, LC-MS, IPRP for characterization and purity determination
  • Method development, qualification and validation for purity and stability indicating method of analysis
  • Source, explore, and implement latest separation science and technologies for the purification of oligonucleotides and their conjugates (carbohydrate, lipid, peptide, protein)
  • Engage with scientists across Eli Lilly’s NTM organizations to develop a deep understanding of new initiatives and improve existing scientific processes.
  • Identify and exploit new scientific concepts, strong problem-solving skills, and be self-motivated to contribute across multiple projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication to speak to both technical and business-related implications of your work.

Basic Qualifications:

  • PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Chemistry or related field

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Reversed phase chromatography, ion exchange chromatography, size exclusion chromatography.
  • Hands-on experience with mass spectrometry in the characterization of synthetic oligonucleotides.
  • Ability to learn and apply technical knowledge to meet changing project needs.
  • Flexibility and ability to prioritize work to meet interpersonal and scientific goals.
  • Ability to balance multiple activities, prioritize and handle ambiguity
