Our Head of Design & Construction, Retail Shops leads architectural and fabrication design work for our Tuft & Needle retail shops while managing relationships with the architect of record, real estate partners, and construction vendors. You will report to the Head of US Retail and work cross-functionally with HQ teams in the development & execution of all related strategies and project plans. The Head of Design & Construction will collaborate with our Visual Merchandising and Product teams to ensure shops have the best FF&E to maximize on-hand product capacity and product presentations to drive sales excellence. In short, you will help elevate our brand aesthetic and deliver a compelling in shop experience for all locations. We are looking for a data driven, inspirational and empathetic servant leader capable of working cross-functionally to build cohesveness and and elevated aesthetic in our retail shops. The ideal candidate is excited about leading through ambiguity and building upon our success as we bring the Tuft & Needle premium sleep and wellness experience to a broader national footprint.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Direct the design and construction of all new and exiting physical spaces.
• Support SSB (Serta Simmons Bedding) organization with future retail concepts.
• Ensure all related financial budgets are correctly forecasted and managed.
• Manages relationships and drive process with the architect of record, real estate partners, and construction vendors. Lead cross-functional teams to flawlessly execute new shop openings.
• Lead real estate process in partnership with Head of Retail, manage site discovery and leasing process with real estate expansion team and deliver test fits in a timely manner.
• Conceptualize and execute on future retail spaces that incorporate expanding product offerings.
• Maintain omni-channel brand continuity between dotcom & brick and mortar locations.
• Focus on bringing new innovative experiences to consumers in and outside of the retail shop.
• Drive clear retail creative direction & execution strategies with internal and external partners to connect with consumers in a consistent brand voice and tone.
• Inform and cultivate alignment with best practices in experience design and seasonal marketing integration.
• Function as a subject matter expert in any shop impacting brand creative & experience designs, testing of new iterations, related data analysis and related efforts.
• Manage design efforts for projects, assign work to the team and deliver for review and approval with Head of Creative, Head of US Retail, and appropriate senior leadership.
• Benchmark our business, monitor our competitors & industry trends as it relates to the shopping experience and provide feedback to the Head of US Retail and HQ business partners to drive relevant pre-emptive and responsive action.
• Ensure compliance and adherence to all T&N/SSB policies, procedures, and company directives.

You bring to Tuft & Needle

• Ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of retail design work experience, with a proven track record of high-quality design, global retail roll-outs.
• Ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of relevant team and cross-functional leadership.
• Ability to work autonomously and manage workflow efficiently.
• Strong analytic background with an ability to manage and share data.
• Experience managing, evaluating and driving real estate portfolio performance and strategy.
• Prior experience developing and executing multiple brand shop concepts and leading execution of new shop openings, relocations, and closings.
• Detail driven with the ability to communicate design vision through sketch.
• Prior experience managing budgets, third party partners, agencies, and freelancers.
• Highly organized with excellent project management skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, highly ambitious and flexible environment.
• Required knowledge of AutoCAD/Revit, 3d Modeling Software (Sketchup, Rhino, 3D Studio Max) and Adobe Suite

• Remote based position with travel to our in-house fabrication lab, existing and new shop locations, site discovery, vendors, and attend meetings as needed.
