The Role and Team A phenomenal opportunity exists to join Medallia as the Chief Accounting Officer as part of our Finance leadership team. This is a key role that can be remote and will report directly to the CFO. This individual will be responsible for leading all technical accounting research and implementation for Medallia, diligence for acquisitions as well as purchase accounting and supporting technical positions, software revenue recognition, debt covenant compliance, all equity related activity, treasury and managing cash flow requirements, drafting annual financial statements and managing key accounting positions with auditors. This position collaborates with stakeholders across the finance and business community which requires someone who thrives on collaborating with a diverse team located across multiple locations and countries in a fast-paced environment. Success in this role is dependent on leadership, organization/people development, process improvement, technical strength and understanding, strategic execution, ability to deal with a rapidly changing business environment and strong communication.
Responsibilities
- Manage the preparation of the annual financial statements including all financial footnotes and disclosures. Effectively liaise with accounting, FP&A and legal on deliverables.
- Be responsible for all technical accounting and disclosures, including research and preparation of technical accounting memos and working with third-party consultants, as needed to support conclusions.
- Responsible for the development and implementation of accounting policies, adapting to the changes in our business as well as changes to U.S. GAAP.
- Determine impact of upcoming and potential accounting and regulatory changes and proactively prepare the organization.
- Provide ongoing technical training for the accounting organization, including the Company's foreign entities, and drive a controls-minded approach to financial reporting.
- Partner with Accounting Operations to develop and revise accounting policies.
- Manage internal reporting calendar and communications with stakeholders to ensure deadline adherence.
- Assist in the coordination of annual audits of external auditors, including delivery of supporting documentation, clearing questions/issues, and reviewing new accounting transactions and disclosures that are technical in nature.
- Involvement in acquisitions /divestitures, including assistance as required with the due diligence and integration process to identify and develop solutions to effectively address issues and opportunities.
- Complete purchase accounting and related research.
- Lead treasury related activities.
- Ensure adherence to debt covenants.
- Lead all accounting for stock related activity, including related research.
- Provide managerial direction and oversee all aspects of performance management for direct reports. Measure and hold all direct reports accountable for meeting defined goals and operational standards; ensure management teams are defining and holding teams accountable for all aspects of performance management of direct reports.
- Hire and develop high performing team, including hiring and mentoring team.
- Act as a strategic influencer to internal and external peers, industry groups, and/or customers.
- Collaborate with external parties such as private equity board and lenders, as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- 8+ years of public accounting experience with at least 3 years of people management experience
- Technical knowledge and demonstrated experience in technical accounting including the research and proposal of company positions on complex accounting issues (i.e. revenue recognition, mergers and acquisition, equity accounting, lease accounting)
- Comprehensive understanding and prior experience with design and implementation of accounting policies and procedures
- Demonstrated understanding of financial accounting and reporting under US GAAP and SEC requirements
- SaaS technology accounting experience
- Demonstrated proficiency in developing and leading a team of people using a collaborative management style in a fast paced environment
- Bachelor’s Degree
- CPA
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in public accounting supporting SaaS technology industry industry
- Strong communication skills
