Job Responsibilities
In this role you will support engineering projects to deliver and maintain Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs) for Viasat’s Commercial Aviation In-Flight Connectivity (IFC) products. Your responsibilities will include: Development of structural installations and piece part designs to support the deployment of metallic and composite components, developing and maintaining mechanical design documentation, and disposition for in-service and manufacturing deviations. In this role you will work directly with civil aviation certification authorities, Viasat engineering and program teams, and external engineering subcontractors to develop, maintain, and approve our installations for a world-wide airline customer base. In addition, you will have the opportunity to apply your mechanical engineering skills to a multi-function engineering team and communications skill during verbal and written interactions with the customer, partners, and Viasat leadership. You will need to be available to p articipate in on-call rotation and support on-call escalations.
R equirements
- 5+ years mechanical engineering/design experience; aviation and/or space industries
- Associates Degree
- Experience with Solidworks, or other similar Computer Aided Design (CAD) packages
- Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) methods and software
- High level of demonstrated expertise with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and ASME drawing practices
- Familiarity with structural analysis of metallic and/or composite structures
- Up to 25% travel
- Available to p articipate in on-call rotation and support on-cell escalations
Preferences
- 9+ years mechanical engineering/design experience; aviation and/or space industries is a plus
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Structural Engineering preferred
- High level of demonstrated expertise with aviation structural installation design
- Experience with solid and surface modeling in Solidworks
- High level of demonstrated expertise with technical writing of engineering documentation
- Experience with engineering drawing practices in aerospace applications
- Highly familiar with aircraft structural repair manuals (SRM)
- Familiarity with manufacturing techniques of metallic and/or composite structures
- Familiarity with Material Review Board (MRB) practices
- Familiarity with environmental test methods listed in RTCA DO-160 and MIL-STD-810
- Working knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations 14CFR Parts 23 and/or 25, or other aircraft certification experience
- Ability to mentor and provide guidance to more junior team members on above topics
