As a Space Systems Engineer, you will apply ground-breaking technologies and work closely with our customers to develop multi-function systems from concept to implementation supporting our nation's most critical defense programs. This includes:
- Subsystem, satellite, and constellation design, development, integration planning, organization, and leadership
- Perform mission and system design on missions from bid generation through launch and operations
- Prepare and drive the review of the technical responses to bids, presentation materials, and reports
- Apply technical knowledge to resolve and set technical objectives to analyze, investigate and resolve sophisticated engineering problems; including future applications, and engineering developments
- Resolution of hardware/software interface problems, the definition of input/output parameters, and integration of the entire system or subsystem
- Satellite system and subsystem test configuration and procedure development, review, and execution
- Collaborate closely with customer and supplier staff, government representatives, and other specialists
Requirements
- 7+ years of space vehicle or payload design experience
- Experience architecting, crafting, developing, and fielding satellites, payloads, communication subsystems, and TT&C data networks
- Deep familiarity with at least one spacecraft subsystem (e.g., communications, attitude determination and control, power, etc.)
- Understanding of model-based system engineering techniques
- Experience with requirements generation and management
- Understanding of space systems environments, design methodologies, mechanical design, and packaging.
- The ability to lead trade studies and design innovative solutions to difficult technical problems
- Proven ability to take a satellite systems design concept through the full systems engineering process culminating in successful operations in space
- Strong analytic/mathematics background with experience in system modeling, simulation, and analysis
- Experience with orbital analysis and spacecraft simulation using commercial products (STK, FreeFlyer) or custom-developed tools
- Experience planning and conducting mission operations for satellite missions
- System, Software, or Test Engineering background including design and implementation
- Strong technical leadership
- Bachelor’s degree in Satellite Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- U.S. Government Position. U.S. Citizenship Required
- Active DoD Secret Clearance or ability to obtain
- Up to 10% of domestic travel
Preferences
- Masters in Electrical, Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Low Earth Orbit (LEO) operations experience
- Experience leading interdisciplinary teams including Business Development, Systems, Software, RF circuits, FPGA design, and others
- A strong technical background in RF systems (RADAR, EW, communications)
- Willing to obtain a DoD TS SCI clearance (or held one in the last 2 years)
- Experience leading a spacecraft mission from feasibility through to on-orbit operations for multi-vehicle missions
If the Federal Executive Order for Government Contractors becomes effective, this role may require vaccination. In such instance, absent an approved accommodation based on a religious or medical reason, employees in this role will be required to be fully vaccinated no later than applicable deadlines, which are unknown at this point.
