Our user base has doubled in the last year alone, and we have paid over $2 billion directly to creators on our platform. In order to support this level of growth, Patreon is looking for a Director of Payment Operations to lead our Payment Operations team, and to work with our Senior Director of Policy External Affairs with scaling payments solutions.

Payment Operations is a crucial role at Patreon. This team ensures that creators are seamlessly and consistently compensated for the Membership benefits they provide to their fans. The Director of Payment Operations role will have an opportunity to shape our current and future payment product offerings in a manner that will have a tremendous impact both for Patreon and our global creator community.

What you will do:

• Drive and execute Patreon’s Payment Operations vision. Build key relationships with our payment partners to drive performance improvements, manage risks, and maintain best practices.
• Improve and innovate our end-to-end payments processing capabilities, including new ways to exchange money with payments partners, while delivering seamless, secure, and reliable payments experiences that delight our Patrons & Creators at scale.
• Strategically develop a best-in-class payments infrastructure that can support current and future payment products and solutions
• Partner with our Risk Engineering and Product teams to identify experience gaps, model innovative solutions, and create expansion opportunities.
• Champion our creators and patrons by working with internal teams to address consistent friction points.
• Manage budget and forecasting across your organization while balancing speed, care, and cost.
• Evaluate opportunities for accelerating Patron and revenue growth and efficiency through various initiatives and partnerships with global payment partners.

Skills and experience you possess:

• A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; MBA preferred
• 8+ years of experience in global payment processing, recurring billing, and e-commerce
• Deep understanding of how money moves between merchant platforms and payment processing partners, including payment gateways, processors, acquirers, card networks, and issuers.
• Strong leadership, exceptional decision-making skills, and project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and influence a diverse team of stakeholders within engineering, product, data science, finance, compliance, and legal.
• Strong analytical and demonstrated strategic and financial acumen. Must be a confident self-starter, capable of working in ambiguity with limited resources.
• Ability to work directly with engineers and product managers to develop use cases, build inspiring narratives, and evaluate short-term vs. long-term trade-offs.
• Experience in negotiating complex payment partner agreements.
