Want to join us?

Hudl is changing the future of sports technology, our mission is to capture and bring value to every moment in sports.

We build video analytics platforms and hardware products for teams around the world, at every level of the sporting world. Our software provides six million coaches and players the insights they need to win. To help our users, we need an automation focused QA Engineer, who will work with a small cross-functional team (PM, Engineers, Designer) to build a quality product.

We are looking for a Quality Assurance Engineer II to work on our products for the Competitive business unit. The Competitive business unit covers all products for our high school, club, and small college teams. Examples of projects include creating tools to help athletes get recruited, giving teams the video they need, when they need it by leveraging our global library of sports video, and building the future of Hudl’s team communication tools.

You Are

  • Experienced working at multiple levels of the testing pyramid. You’ve written and maintained tests that span various levels of the testing pyramid and understand when to target which level.
  • Experienced testing across various web browsers. You are familiar with the most popular web browsers and have tested the nuances between them. You’re also familiar with mobile web form factors.
  • Experienced with automation frameworks. You have experience writing and maintaining automated tests and have worked with a variety of automation frameworks. We use Jest for unit and integration tests across web and mobile. We use Detox for end-to-end tests on mobile and are looking to expand our end-to-end testing on web.
  • Committed to reliable automation. You understand best practices for improving test reliability and embrace them. We leverage test isolation concepts such as test doubles and dependency injection and avoid shortcuts like adding sleeps when troubleshooting flaky tests.
  • Always looking for ways to improve tests and testing systems. You’re able to identify weaknesses in tests and are committed to staying up to date on modern testing frameworks and ideologies that help us continue to push our quality standards further.
  • Able to effectively test manually when needed. You are willing and able to perform manual tests effectively when needed but are always thinking about how to reduce reliance on manual tests. When manually testing visual components, you are able to identify discrepancies from the original designs, usability issues, and functional issues.
  • Comfortable with mobile testing. You’ve tested with mobile simulators/emulators and understand the pros and cons of using them over physical devices. You understand the value of testing on multiple mobile form factors, orientations, and OS versions.
  • Interested in accessibility. Creating products that are inaccessible to any of our users is unacceptable. You will be the final gatekeeper of accessibility on Hudl’s design system as new features are released. You understand the importance of creating products for everyone and are interested in learning how to test for accessibility compliance in new features.
  • A strong communicator in a variety of forms. Supporting a design system at scale involves a commitment to documentation that is complete and up-to-date and direct communication that is thoughtful and clear. You are willing and able to make this commitment.
  • Willing to learn. You have solid testing skills but are always willing to dive into new areas such as mobile automation to gain the expertise needed to be successful in your role.
  • Excited about helping others be productive. The idea of serving other Product Team members and making their lives easier sounds exciting to you.
  • A mentor at heart. You find mentoring others rewarding and seek out opportunities to level up others in your area of expertise.
  • Able to handle interruptions. Unplanned work to squash impediments and verify fixes for new or unexpected defects will happen. You understand this and can work effectively with your team and stakeholders to prioritize this work appropriately while still taking sprint commitments into consideration.

You Will

  • Extend and maintain automated tests for Hudl’s design system. To ensure teams working on customer-facing features across web and mobile are building with design components that display and function as expected, you will be creating new tests for the system and ensuring both new and existing ones pass reliably. You will challenge yourself to extend automation beyond happy path testing.
  • Manually test changes to Hudl’s design system across web and mobile. You work alongside developers to ensure changes they make to the design system for web or mobile meet the acceptance criteria defined for the change and do not introduce regressions. In addition to leveraging automation when possible, you will also need to perform some manual testing. You will provide structure to manual testing by defining and documenting a comprehensive test plan. You’ll execute on the plan and conduct exploratory testing as needed.
  • Be the gatekeeper for releases of Hudl’s design system. Before design system updates are released to the Product Team, you will ensure the release is solid from a visual, functional, accessibility, and compatibility perspective.
  • Be an involved team member. You will actively participate in scrum ceremonies and help define acceptance criteria for tickets in the team’s backlog.

We Will

  • Give you a chance to lead. Hudl’s design system is a key part of front-end development at Hudl. In this role, we will give you every chance to become a leader in the QA space and help set new standards for testing at Hudl.
  • Treat you like an adult. It’s all about a healthy work-life balance. We’ll trust you to get work done and take a break when you need it. (Hello, unlimited vacation policy!)
  • Give you what you need . We’ll supply the environment and tools for success, allowing you to focus on professional growth and career development.
  • Challenge you. You'll be surrounded by people equally committed to the company's success, allowing for constant collaboration.
