    DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
    The Digestive Health Center at UW Medical Center - Montlake offers a full range of consultations and procedures for the care of digestive disorders and problems of the gastrointestinal system. Conditions treated include abdominal pain, gastroesophageal reflux disease, swallowing disorders, celiac disease, nutrition disorders, inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, disorders of the pancreas and bile ducts, and functional gastrointestinal and motility disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome.
    The Digestive Health Center also offers screening services for prevention and early diagnosis of gastrointestinal cancers. This includes colorectal cancer screening procedures such as colonoscopy and surveillance of other precancerous conditions such as Barrett’s esophagus or intestinal metaplasia of the stomach.
    This center provides a full range of gastrointestinal endoscopy procedures using a flexible, camera-mounted tube to look into the gastrointestinal tract in order to diagnose and treat problems. Most commonly, these include upper endoscopies to examine the esophagus, stomach or upper small intestine and colonoscopies to examine the large intestine. The center also offers advanced procedures such as endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) to diagnose and treat disorders of the pancreas and bile ducts and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) to image structures deep within the esophagus, stomach and pancreas.
    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervise assigned staff ensuring compliance with regulatory agencies, insurance and other financial requirements, and hospital policies and procedures
  • Oversee outpatient care by complex care coordination (scheduling surgery), inpatient (delivery clearance) and arranging diagnostic procedures and/or coordinating request for consultation among other medical specialties by following established protocols
  • Act as a liaison between patients, consulting physician, referring physician, or outside agency to coordinate patient appointments, admission, or surgery. Will coordinate the exchange of information either written or verbally before and after patients are seen
  • Consistently demonstrates productive and timely communication with charge nurses, nursing staff, peers, patients, physicians, volunteers and other medical center departments and ancillary service
  • Increase collaboration between our PCC/PSS team?through regular meetings and addressing overlap and delegation of duties between the two teams
  • Oversee break and vacation coverage through equitable means
  • Report out weekly AccuReg, phone calls, and referral numbers to administration
  • Coordinate pre-admission tests and procedures.
  • Schedule and ensure pre-anesthesia works-ups are completed
  • Coordinate the direct transfer of patients from outside hospitals to UWMC with physicians, medical staff, and Admitting.
    REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in a medically related or public relations field
  • Two years of experience as a Patient Care Coordinator
    OR
  • An equivalent combination of education/experience
