  • DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
    The Communications Center Operations Manager is responsible for leading, managing, and coordinating the operations of the Airlift Northwest Communications Center. This position oversees the development, implementation, and revision of plans, programs, policies, and procedures of the Airlift Communication Center. The Operations Manager is also responsible for hiring, training, and evaluating personnel, preparing and overseeing the department budget, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. In conjunction with the Director of Operations, develops the strategic direction of the communications center. The Operations Manager also researches and recommends technological improvements and best practices to ensure the highest level of safety and effectiveness.
    PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
    Leadership and Management:
    • Lead, manage, and coordinate the operations of the Airlift Northwest Communications Center.
    • Fosters a culture of safety, cooperation, and continuous improvement.
    • Develop, implement, and revise plans, programs, policies, and procedures in accordance with CAMTS
    guidelines.
    • Hire, train, and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel.
    • Establish and evaluate appropriate performance and operation standards.
    • Prepare and communicate operational KPIs.
    • Lead QA/QI activities for the communications center.
    • Participate in daily shift briefings.
    • Investigate complaints/concerns and initiate corrective action per UW guidelines.
    • Monitor staff on comprehension of, and training needs regarding regulatory compliance for HIPAA,
    billing/reimbursement requirements for Medicare/Medicaid, other third-party payers, and regulatory
    agencies.
    Staffing and Training:
    • Interview and recommend selection of medical Airlift communications specialist
    applicants, act upon leave requests, conduct annual performance evaluations of the
    supervisors.
    • Maintain proper staffing levels for assigned shifts at all times.
    • Develop and prepare routine and complex Flight Vector reports as requested.
    • Develop, review, update, approve, and implement training materials, manuals, and Standard Operating
    Procedures.
    • Provide coverage in the communication center on a fill-in basis to ensure operational continuity.
    Community Engagement:
    • Represent the Airlift Communications Center at community, county, state, and other meetings as needed.
    • Liaison with all public safety agencies regarding emergency communications issues.
    Financial Management:
    • Prepare and oversee the department budget.
    • Forecast future budgeting and capital improvement needs.
    Regulatory Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with all applicable Federal, State, FCC, and local laws and regulations.
    • Ensure all equipment is operable and properly maintained.
    • Ensure compliance with CAMTS.
    Operations Coordination:
    • Manage and coordinate use of communications infrastructure, including managing the
    repair, maintenance, and replacement of existing equipment, and purchase and
    installation of updated systems.
    • Coordinate with other PSAPs/911 Centers.
    • Coordinate maintenance and equipment redundancies to ensure 100% in-service reliability.
    • Ensures continuous readiness of the communications center including off-site comm center continuity
    exercises.
    Other Performance Requirements:
    • Conducts regular staff meetings.
    • Attends management and board meetings.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.
    • Participates in operations QA/QI meetings.
    • Assume additional responsibilities as apparent and as directed to ensure safe and
    efficient department operation.
    • Monitor staff on comprehension of, and training needs regarding regulatory compliance.
    • Ability to analyze, understand, and evaluate complex situations, and establishing
    and maintaining effective working relationships with staff, departments,
    contractors, vendors, service providers, outside agencies, community groups, and
    the public.
    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, business, management or related field
    AND
  • Five years of experience in management or supervision in an air-medical communications center setting.
    OR
  • Equivalent education/experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements such as licenses/certification/registration.
