UW Information Technology (UW-IT) is the central information technology organization for the University of Washington, responsible for strategic planning, oversight, and direction of the UW’s IT infrastructure, resources, and services. UW-IT provides critical technology support to all three campuses, UW Medicine, and research operations around the world. UW-IT partners with the UW community to enable innovation, learning, discovery, and service.
Within the Data & Applications Workday Operations organization, the Workday HR/Payroll Application Management team supports Workday HR/Payroll modules such as Human Capital Management, Compensation, Academic, Talent, Benefits, Time Tracking, Absence, and Payroll. The Sr. Applications System Engineer will support Tier 3 Application Management functions in Workday HR/Payroll, a cloud-based human resource management software system. More specific responsibilities will include coordinating with other team members to analyze/troubleshoot complex system issues, supporting the configuration and implementation changes to the Workday application, participating in testing/validation of functionality changes, supporting the development of Workday domain area training material, and acting in a functional ownership capacity for designated reports and integrations. In performing these duties, the incumbent will analyze business problems and processes to identify functional and non-functional solutions supporting the needs of the University.
As a contributor to the Application Management team, the Sr. Applications System Engineer will serve as a subject matter expert within Workday HR/Payroll to ensure design, development, configuration, testing and launch of specific features are complete and functional, both independently and in coordination with all other dependent Workday features. Further, this position is engaged with other teams so that dependent integrations, reports, and other business needs are consistently maintained and accounted for as continual changes are made to the Workday system. This role will require extensive insight into various business processes and technical considerations and encompass cognizance of relevant compliance/regulatory standards and associated audit/control reporting.
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Information Science, Computer Science or related field or experience.
Four years of experience working with enterprise HR/Payroll systems and the configuration and maintenance thereof, including working specifically with the Workday HR/Payroll (or similar) HCM, Compensation, Academic, Talent, Benefits, Time Tracking, Absence, or Payroll modules.
Experience analyzing complex HR/Payroll business processes and documenting requirements.
Experience supporting system testing and/or data validation activities.
Experience with reporting, data, and security in a SaaS environment.
Demonstrated ability to understand business and technical design considerations and facilitate problem solving/issue resolution in the context of a customer service framework.
Ability to communicate clearly, in writing and in verbal presentations, to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Experience interacting with customers, including resolution of complex inquiries and efficient performance during high-volume timeframes.
Experience providing production support of mission critical systems.
Demonstrated excellent written/oral communication skills, technical documentation skills, user liaising, and personal interaction abilities.
DESIRED:
Experience performing configuration work in an Agile environment such as Scrum or Kanban.
Experience playing an individual contributor role within a shared services environment.
Working experience executing relevant business processes at the University of Washington or in a comparable higher education environment.
Experience in the use of customer support infrastructure tools, including a case management system, knowledge base and associated reporting tool.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Hybrid working environment with expectation to be in the office minimum of 2 days per week.
Open office environment
Work environment deadlines include a semi-monthly ongoing payroll schedule for operations as well as project-driven effective dates and due dates.
Occasional work outside of business hours for timed deployments, urgent support, or planned recurring work such as the twice yearly Workday Release weekend in March and September.
