    WORK SCHEDULE

    POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
    The Hand Therapist will provide services to patients using specialized skills, including assess, plan, administer, evaluate and provide safe hand therapy. This will include progression of treatment goals and patient and family education. The Hand Therapist will assess and treat a patient caseload ranging from routine to complex patient problems and situations. Collaborates with other disciplines as appropriate to coordinate continuity of patient care from admission to discharge. Implements treatment programs, which include therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, fabrication of orthoses, and evidence-based utilization of physical agents. Instructs, assigns work and evaluates students as assigned by supervisor. The Therapist acts as a resource within the Exercise Training Center.

    PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
    Schedules patients for treatment and evaluations.
    Plans treatment programs with the patient and treatment team.
    Collaborates with the therapy departments throughout UW Medicine to optimize patient care and staffing.
    Interprets and carries out the referrals of the physician and other referring providers; protects confidential data; demonstrates economic use of time, equipment and supplies; provides for the safety and welfare of patients and other employees.
    Documents intervention and strategies for treatment in required organizational systems. Documentation includes assessment, measurable criteria, goals, method of treatment, home program and plan. Adapts plans according to patient responses to interventions.
    Provides home programs and other educational information to patient and support systems prior to termination of therapy intervention.
    Coordinates patient care programs with treatment team to facilitate and enhance functional outcomes.
    Assists in the review of program quality and development of procedures and protocols for the service area.
    Educates, instructs, and is a resource to, residents training at the Exercise Training Center, in the area of hand and occupational therapy. Supervises clinical performance evaluation of affiliating OT and OTA students.
    Utilizes current research to analyze and improve clinical skills and decision making.
    Fabricates orthoses for a variety of non-operative and post-operative conditions with a variety of orthotic materials.
    Maintains minimal productivity requirement.
    Adheres to UW Medicine policies and timelines regarding documentation.
    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
    - Graduation from an accredited Occupational Therapy Program AND successful completion of American Occupational Therapy Association certification examination AND 12 months of professional occupational therapy experience.
    OR Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification or registration.
    - Licensed by the state of Washington as an Occupational Therapist.
    - Certified Hand Therapist (CHT)
