The School of Nursing and Healthcare Leadership has an outstanding opportunity for a Academic Outreach and Recruitment Specialist to join their team.
The Academic Outreach and Recruitment Specialist is responsible for promoting all programs in the School of Nursing and Healthcare Leadership (SNHCL). This position works collaboratively with SNHCL staff and faculty to understand the various programs and how they are being taught in order to present information to prospective students. This position needs to come up with marketing strategies and establish an effective recruiting plan for the academic year. This position is also responsible for outreach to local community colleges and agencies to determine how our School might fill the needs of those programs or institutions.
This position is the sole recruiter for our very specific programs. The RN-BSN program and the MN program have direct pathways and this position needs to provide those pathways very clearly. This position must create and execute marketing strategies that utilize social media platforms, through podcasts, the creation of the newsletter, and the website. These strategies should be engaging and provide some kind of action to bring potential students in to discuss the programs or apply. This position also needs to create and execute effective recruitment and outreach strategies. This often includes but is not limited to presenting program information in classrooms, at educational fairs, in panels, over zoom, and in one-on-one meetings.
This position must understand the program plans, goals, and expected student outcomes for each SNHCL program. They must be able to effectively communicate and present program information in a clear, concise, and accurate manner.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Outreach and Recruitment: 50%
  • Develop, coordinate, and evaluate an annual recruitment plan for outreach activities, targeted recruitment, and other recruitment/retention related areas.
  • Plan and participate in outreach events which will result in successful recruitment of students into the graduate program and both undergraduate programs.
  • Work collaboratively with other program staff and campus recruiters to develop and implement effective outreach activities.
  • Represent the School of Nursing and Healthcare Leadership at college and public information events; work collaboratively with other UW departments to promote effective and creative recruitment activities.
  • Network, develop and maintain effective working relationships with key staff and faculty, with community college partners, advisory council, local high schools, clinical faculty, alumni, and with health care organizations.
  • Focus efforts to recruit and retain BIPOC student populations.
  • Ethically counsel prospective students, families, and counselors about the admissions policies and procedures and provide information about educational opportunities within the department.
  • Develop relationships with UWT staff who work with special populations, I.e. international students, TRiO, Running Start, diversity services, etc.

  • Update and maintain content and structure of the School website.
  • Work with faculty, staff, and students to create content for print and digital media such as flyers, packets, social media, podcasts, and electronic newsletters.
  • Utilize and monitor UW and UWT brand guidelines and applications of those in print and digital media.
  • Coordinate with UW Tacoma Communications & Marketing in broader strategies, and represent the school across campus in conjunction with marketing strategies.

  • Participate in annual awards ceremony, commencement, alumni events, etc.
  • Maintain alumni contact data and post-graduation information in coordination with campus alumni office.
  • Serve on program and campus-wide committees.
  • Work a flexible schedule with some evening and weekend work.
  • Other duties as assigned.
    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of experience in marketing, communications, or recruiting to include 1 year social media management for marketing purposes and 1 year online content management experience
    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Experience working with students in an academic setting
  • Experience creating marketing strategies that includes social, digital and print media
  • Experience using MS Office products, including MS Access, with a history of easily adapting to new technologies
    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience recruiting in a college or university setting
  • Working knowledge of UW and UW Tacoma
  • Familiarity with Drupal 8 content management system
